CHRISTUS Health awards $305,000 to North Louisiana nonprofits
Six North Louisiana nonprofit organizations have received $305,000 in grants from CHRISTUS Health to support programs addressing health and community needs.
The funding, announced Thursday at a ceremony hosted by CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System, came from the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund. This year, the fund will distribute $3.7 million across communities in Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico.
Grant recipients in the Shreveport-Bossier region include the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, LSU Ag Center, Community Renewal International, Shreveport Green and St. Luke’s Mobile Medical Ministry.
“The CHRISTUS Fund represents our mission in motion, and we’re grateful to support community organizations that serve with compassion, intention and meaningful impact,” said Jessica Guerra, program manager for community development at CHRISTUS Health.
Lauren Jones, executive director of Shreveport Green, said the funding will expand the nonprofit’s Mobile Market initiative, which delivers produce from local farmers and Shreveport Green’s urban farm to neighborhoods without reliable grocery access. The program sells fruits and vegetables for $1 per pound and offers cooking demonstrations and pop-up events.
“This grant is going to mobilize so much more local funding into our farmers, help us grow, maintain our mobile market van, and support our staff—who are a big part of what we do and often overlooked,” Jones said.
CHRISTUS launched the Community Impact Fund in 2011 and has invested more than $25 million since then. Including charity care and other community programs, CHRISTUS Health reported a $544 million investment in its service areas in 2024.
